Environmental Economics

Description

This course will be conducted fully face-to-face (F2F). There are two limits to sustainable economic growth: the limited capacity of the natural environment to absorb waste, and the limited quantity of non-renewable energy and natural resources. This course provides an overview of the current situation and policy solutions to these limits. The first part discusses data and policy examples related to environmental problems. The latter part explores the reasons these problems occur and how to solve them from an economic perspective. The objectives of this course are: 1) to familiarize students with basic features of Japanese environmental policy and its current status, and 2) to equip students with fundamental economic tools to analyze and address various environmental problems.
