Seminar on Economics I (Toyama, Y)
Translated from JapaneseDescription
In this seminar, we will conduct empirical research utilizing economic insights on various issues such as industrial organization theory, economic policies (especially competition and regulatory policies), and consumer behavior (household behavior and quantity marketing). While the theoretical analysis of economics that you have learned is a sharp tool, there are many challenging issues that cannot be answered by theory alone. To analyze real phenomena and issues and apply the results to policy and business, it is essential to confront actual data. In this seminar, we aim to conduct quantitative analysis based on economics on important academic issues in policy and business that interest you, and produce outputs (papers and presentations) with implications for policy and business. In Exercise 1, we will work on empirical research projects using pseudo datasets and real datasets. By engaging in data analysis hands-on, you will deepen your knowledge of statistics, econometrics, and programming, and learn how to present and progress data analysis projects. We aim to become individuals who can conduct applied and empirical research on policy and business utilizing economics, data analysis, and programming, while also continuously learning and absorbing new knowledge in the medium to long term.
