European Governance

Description

Learning outcomes: The course provides an understanding about European governance. At the end of the course, the student will be familiar with the administrative functioning of the European Union, the relationship between EU-Governance and national governance and the impact of the EU-Integration process on the national, regional and local administrations. The course introduces the following common learning objectives of the study program: understanding administrative systems, the ability to make knowledge-based, sustainable, and legitimate decisions, and the skill to lead development work that considers societal needs. Additionally, the students will develop their problem-solving skills and critical thinking. In terms of sustainable development, the goal is to learn to develop effective, responsible, and transparent institutions at all levels and to promote public, public-private and civil society partnerships. Content: The emphasis is on the basics of the EU-organization and decision-making and EU law and impact on domestic regulation, implementation and enforcement of EU-law and policies on the national public administrations. Study and assessment methods: Exam on lectures and literature, assignment.
