
Place-Based Management on a Global Scale
Description
Learning outcomes: By the end of the course students will: see a connection between climate change, geopolitics, technology, culture and economy, as well as holistic nature of global change in general, learn how to describe some of the central processes which are behind global change, understand how global networks and phenomena are relational but can be managed and utilised on the local level. Students will also be encouraged to apply previously learned studies and knowledge of the society in a global change setting by inspecting their root causes in a critical and exploratory manner. The course reinforces the following common learning objectives of the PPM major: ability to analyze and interpret public activities and their operational environment from the perspective of organizations and regions, and the ability to develop the operations of organizations, regions, and networks by considering their specific characteristics. Additionally, the students will develop their problem-solving skills and critical thinking. In terms of sustainable development, the goal is to learn to develop effective, responsible, and transparent institutions at all levels, as well as learn to promote the progress of sustainable cities and communities Content: At the core of the course are the following themes: geopolitics, climate change, digitalization, inequality and culture. Place-based leadership will be introduced as a theoretical framework for management, which combines both endogenous and exogenous networks. Study and assessment methods: Independent work which is based on video lectures & other study material, as well as a writing a course portfolio. Implementation methods: Periodic online teaching, self-learning. Turnitin will be used in evaluation. Learning materials: Will be shared on the courses Moodle-page. Contains videos, articles, news, figures, slides and statistics. Further information: Course can be independently studied online. Lecture diaries can be returned at the end of the period. NOTE: Equivalent to the previous course HTK2106 Global Change Management, 5 ECTS. Prerequisites: Sufficient oral and written English language skills; sufficient capacity for electronic participation.
