Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of geographic information systems Learning objectives: The aims is to give an integrated view of the basic factors for rural areas analysis and planning. Provides knowledge and tools to operate from a technical point of view in the field of land and landscape planning, develop skills for group working. Spatial planning: origins and development of the discipline. Framework of territorial governance in Italy, planning at landscape scale and in natural areas. Ecological planning: basic concepts and evolution. Land and landscape analysis and evaluation. Methods and tools for spatial analysis in land planning context, potential of indicators and indices for knowledge of the state of the territory.. Different types of land plans. The landscape plan, Management plans for Natura 2000 areas. Introduction to landscape ecology. Introduction to Landscape Ecology, Landscape patterns, role of structure, function, change. Green infrastructures at the landscape scale, ecological networks, mapping, indices for characterization and design. Land use analysis lab. (Geographic Information Systems) as a tool to support land and landscape planning. Evaluation methods and mapping systems for ecological connectivity and green infrastructures at landscape scale. Spatial analysis procedures and fundamentals of geostatistics. Development of a case study. Teaching methods: Lectures are accompanied by interactive exercises and practical activities on the use of GIS software, case studies and seminars with experts and professionals in the field.
