Learning outcomes: The course advances the participant's understanding of the contexts and discourses of artistic research. It also gives methodical tools for summarizing the key argument of a text and for developing individual working methods of browsing and sorting out one's reference materials. During the course the participants build up a substantial starting point for contextualising their own research in the field of artistic research. Content: In this course we read and discuss a series of key texts concerning artistic research. During the course, the participants familiarise themselves in detail with a series of key texts and one optional book and produce valuable notes and accurate summaries of them for possible later use in their own doctoral projects. The course consists of seven course sessions with accompanied readings: An introductory session with presentations by the teachers, 4 seminar sessions divided in two parts, and a closing session with participants' presentations and discussion. The first part of each seminar session focuses on summaries and the second part on discussion. For each of these sessions each participant writes a summary of a given text. The summaries are presented and discussed based on peer comments. The rest of the session is dedicated to another given text that will be discussed in the group. The closing session is dedicated to mapping the different discussions and positions of the field of artistic research based on participants' book presentations. Completion methods: Active participation in the sessions, and 4 written article summaries and 1 book summary. Execution methods: On site teaching. The seminar will go online only if the circumstances force us, otherwise remote participation will not be supported by the teachers. Students can, if necessary, participate remotely, but they are expected to organise a host for themselves independently of the teachers.
