Learning outcomes: A student who has completed the unit is expected to: * be able to set the context for performing an aria in terms of function and content * be able to consider vocal, musical, stylistic and textual aspects when performing arias * understand each aria in the context of the opera, its milieu, its period and the musical language of its time, and also the performance practice of the period * have the capability to select and prepare audition repertoire and to enhance their interpretations of arias Content: * Musical, textual, stylistic and interpretative analysis and coaching for arias, and practice performances for the rest of the group * Performance rehearsals and coaching * Discussion of the arias and their operas in the group Qualifications: Sufficient technical skills in managing the student’s own voice type. Evaluation scale: Pass - Fail
