This module is designed to meet the needs of the future non-financial manager. It provides an introduction to those aspects of financial accounting, management accounting and financial management that are likely to be of importance to such managers. You'll start by learning the principal elements of the main accounting documents. You’ll learn that these documents provide the main vehicle by which the business entity discloses its performance, and you'll study techniques which enable a competent analysis of an entity’s performance, solvency, cashflow and investor attractiveness to be made. Attention then turns to management accounting, where you’ll learn essential aspects of: cost behaviour; marginal costing techniques; divisional performance appraisal and budgeting, including cash budgeting. In the final part of the module (financial management), you'll apply the four main types of investment appraisal to assess long-term projects, plus you will examine aspects of capital structure and working capital management.
