To familiarize students with themes of architectural theory and history, such as the construction and organization of space, the distinction between natural space and humanized space and between urban space and architectural space, the importance of light in the modeling of architecture, time as the fourth dimension of space, the relationship between artistic and architectural movements, the importance of travel in the construction of spatial knowledge, introduction to current themes of architectural discourse. Clarification of current and specific vocabulary in architecture and urbanism. Appeal to each individual's "hidden" spatial memories (direct and indirect experimentation) and encouragement of "personal discoveries," especially regarding the enjoyment of architecture and the city. Mastery of urban and architectural spatial issues and the "constant" themes of architectural theory. Ability to work individually and in teams. Development of skills to perform different tasks and study methodologies in critical reflection on architecture and the city. TUTORIAL PERSONAL GUIDANCE SESSIONS (one class per week) "Practical" classes to consolidate the concepts discussed in the "theoretical" sessions: circular conversations to explore personal spatial memories; screening of images and films or reading texts that encourage spatial reflection; individual or group exercises that encourage discussion, dialogue, vocabulary and concept correction, questioning, study, and research in architecture. Work completed in practical classes or outside of school hours (individual and group) will be subject to continuous assessment (in its various components of expression, originality, rigor, and appropriateness), as well as student attendance and participation. Attendance in at least 75% of theoretical and practical classes is a prerequisite for obtaining attendance. Students with more than 25% absences will not be classified. As TGOE is an annual curricular unit with continuous assessment, the final grade will be the average obtained between the theoretical component and the practical component. The theoretical component grade (60%) is calculated based on the average of the grades awarded for the various proposed exercises (Urban Concepts - 2%; Architectural Concepts - 3%; Houses - 15%; Essay - 15%; Exam - 25%). A negative average for the theoretical component assignments (<10) will result in failure. The practical component grade (40%) is calculated based on the average of the grades awarded for the various individual and group assignments developed throughout the year (Trash Model - 4%; Short Film - 15%; Portfolio - 21%). The final grade also considers the penalty for absenteeism. Students with more than 25% absences will not be classified. The TGOE course unit is not subject to appeal. There will be the possibility of reformulating the written essay and portfolio for those who wish to improve their grade. The new result will be considered with the remaining work carried out. SIGARRA mobility teaching-language note: Portuguese. Incoming mobility students choose course units through SIGARRA and a Learning Agreement. U.Porto states that one ECTS credit corresponds to 27 hours of total student work, the standard load is 30 ECTS per semester or 60 ECTS per academic year, students are strongly advised to register for at least 20 ECTS per semester, and enrolment is subject to timetable compatibility, prerequisites, vacancies, and later programme changes.
