Sovereignty and Reconciliation

Description

This course provides students with a critical understanding of contemporary race relations in Australia. Key topics include Indigenous sovereignty, European Imperialism, and Indigenous and non-Indigenous activism to address ongoing colonisation. The course critically analyses public policy and discourse for the purpose of generating an equitable future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in 21st Century Australia. The course will examine diverse perspectives on reconciliation, Australian Citizenship and the legacies of European Imperialism, and Indigenous sovereignty, while engaging with healing frameworks and Indigenous-led initiatives towards self-determination. All ABOR courses are developed in alignment with the Wollotuka Institute’s Cultural Standards Framework, ensuring respect for cultural principles and practices.
