In recent years, there has been significant progress in medical research, mainly due to basic research, defined as that which seeks to answer fundamental questions of scientific knowledge. Additionally, there has been a similar rise in clinical research, especially reflected in numerous clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of new therapies in hospital centers. However, these advances in basic and clinical research do not occur in a coordinated manner, with few projects linking laboratory results to clinical practice. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen translational research to move towards personalized medicine based on therapeutic individualization. A major cause of the limited development of translational research in our country is the lack of hospital medical specialists involved in such projects, mainly due to the daily workload. Another fundamental reason is the limited training in biomedical research topics that medical professionals have received, both during their degree and specialization years. Aware that this learning must begin at the start of medical studies, this course aims to introduce students to laboratory work and familiarize them with the most common techniques and daily activities in a basic research laboratory. For this, they will receive mainly practical content, without neglecting the theoretical training necessary to understand the techniques they will perform.
