Intermediate Translation German-English, Course A (Exercise)

Description

This course offers a systematic approach to translating on the basis of the strict rules of English word order and then leads the student through every imaginable aspect of grammar and vocabulary that is relevant to translating from German into English, in particular from the German point of view. This includes, amongst many other things, the translation of reported speech, conditionals, the passive voice, and characteristic German grammar situations that do not exist in English, as well as all aspects of the use of adverbs, punctuation, etc. All this is supplemented by lessons on the use of a monolingual English dictionary as a sole translation aid as well as on the art of rephrasing, which helps the student to furnish translations that come across to the reader as natural as the original.
