Course aims The aim of this course is to introduce students to the basic tenets of socio-cultural anthropological research via its methods, which is a basis for progress in research in other course programmes and more broadly in anthropologists’ careers. Course tasks 1. Provide students with key knowledge of epistemology, methods, designing research as well as the implications of the researcher's role within the research itself. 2. Students will be given examples of practice from their instructor's own field research in order to enhance their knowledge of research activity. 3. The course also will provide students with the chance to make use of their new skills and knowledge by carrying out a short piece of research, and then to critically analyse and reflect upon the process. 4. Further, students will be able to present this research to colleagues. 5. As a result, students should be better prepared for further research in their careers, whether as anthropologists, in other social science fields or in the private sector. The languages of instruction are either Latvian or English.
