Introduction to studies and university resources

Description

The course introduces students to the academic environment, the basic principles of academic writing, orientates in studies and research. Students master the essay writing principles, the process of conducting a research, finding appropriate sources and learn the technical and content requirements of the texts. The aim of the course is to strengthen students' abilities when working with scientific and professional material, to introduce with the basics of creating a scientific text and argumentation, as well as to promote the skills of independent work. During the course, students identify the opportunities offered by the university and are invited to participate creatively in the University of Latvia activities, to prepare for the further study period in a structured way. The course also develops students' presentation skills and promotes general professionalism, timely career planning, and evaluates the different possible future directions.
