By the end of the course, students will achieve the following learning objectives: Understanding the influence of the international environment on businesses Understanding the interdependency of geographically dispersed business units Having acquired the practical and theoretical knowledge of international management models, techniques, and tools Having the ability to independently analyze the international situation of a company and a market, and to develop and argue a strategic recommendation The course is designed to introduce students to the particularities of international management. A broad overview of the most relevant topics and main types of decisions in the area of international management is given. This includes the three basic dimensions of management in a multinational corporation (configuration, coordination, and operation modes) but also the particularities of business functions in the context of MNCs (e.g. Human Resource Management), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and Management in Emerging Markets. Through the discussion of case studies, interactions with guest speakers, and a group project, students will also understand the practical application of this knowledge.
