Description

This course gives an overview of bioinformatics applied to the analysis and integration of -omics data focused on understanding the role of proteins. A substantial part of the course includes regular hands-on practise of relevant bioinformatics tools through the development of individual projects (personal and collective homework). Practical work also involves scientific article reading and presenting. 1. Background - The -omics landscape - A focus on proteomics and interactomics 2. Mapping protein interactomes - High throughput methods - Protein-protein interaction mapping - Standards for data representation - Interactome databases 3. Theoretical background and tools - Elements of graph theory - Network biology - Network analysis - Prediction of interactions - Visualisation tools 4. Functional interpretation - Data curation - Gene ontology and term enrichment methods and tools - Accounting for the influence of PTMs. - Toward data integration
