The importance of multinational companies and the economic interdependence of countries have increased radically in recent years. At the same time, the cross-border environment in which multinational companies conduct their international operations remains far from homogenous. Countries continue to differ across a wide variety of dimensions. In this context, we should pay more attention to international business, as it has become more essential than ever. This course provides students with a solid foundation in the theory and practice of international business. It gives them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the key notions, terminologies and principles of international business. Furthermore, it prompts them to think systematically about the critical dimensions of the international business environment in which multinational companies operate and how these impact their strategic decision-making processes. This course is designed to be theoretically rigorous and practically relevant. To this end, it adopts a case study approach to facilitate the active engagement of students with real-world international business scenarios. Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: analyse the international business environment of a company that conducts business across borders; explain the fundamental theories of international business and the key principles underlying the internationalisation of a company; recognise and resolve international business problems in practical situations using international business theories; make strategic recommendations to effectively deal with the demands of the contemporary international business environment.
