Description
People are central to the success of organizations. The main objective of this course is to gain an understanding of how to lead and manage people effectively. During this course, we will explore theoretical and practical issues arising from the management of people in organizations. The course will examine the concepts of leadership and management and introduce the main models and theories developed to explain how individuals and teams can be led and managed effectively. The main aim of this course is to provide an introduction to leadership and management by exploring organizational behaviour topics such as motivation, well-being, and (creative) performance. Students should expect a strong emphasis on the mastery of factual information underpinned by academic research as well as insights from practice on leadership and management, how these take shape, and why these are important for organizations, individual employees, and teams. Objectives: E M op den Kamp (coordinator 1st semester) Y Cheng (coordinator 2nd semester) Upon completion of this course, students should be able to: recognise and describe important theories and empirical findings related to the leadership and management of individuals and teams; recognise and explain employee reactions and other outcomes of leadership and management; analyse and apply the arguments underpinning how leadership and management can be used by organisations to gain a competitive advantage; search for and read scientific literature about leadership & management topic, and use this literature to compare and contrast theories and empirical findings; summarise and illustrate the above-mentioned theories and empirical findings and apply them to practical issues and problems.
