Engineering Skills 1
Description
The module provides a foundation to engineering sciences, covering basic equations of physics used in engineering and their mathematical resolution. It incorporates principles of mathematics (including fundamentals of algebra to include simultaneous linear equations, matrices, vector spaces and linear transformations), fluid mechanics (fundamentals of fluid mechanics i.e. forces exerted by fluids at rest and moving fluids, flows in pipes, material behaviour, lab work) and structural mechanics (principles of mechanics to statically determinate structures, analysis of statically determinate structures, stresses in structural elements under elastic conditions, deflections of determinate beams, trusses and frames, and analysing two-dimensional elastic stress and strain). These specific technical subjects will be articulated around a project and throughout its resolution the different skills will be presented. Learning Outcomes Fundamental principles of fluid mechanics and explain how they pertain to civil engineering Fundamental principles of structural mechanics and explain how they pertain to civil engineering Engineering mathematical tools and explain how they pertain to fluid and structural mechanics
