Description

Presentation: The advanced modules of semester 3 aim to provide students with additional tools for continuing their university studies and future archaeological careers. The Advanced Study 1 module consists of three mandatory courses: Scientific Communication in Archaeology; Statistical Treatment of Archaeological Data; Experimental Archaeology. Course coordinators: Vannalisa Coli, Marco Corneli, Lydie Dussol, Pauline Garberi. In-person: 48 hours of tutorials. Prerequisites: Before the course, I must have good knowledge in archaeology and Prehistory (Master 1 courses); have downloaded and installed the free software R (https://cran.r-project.org/) and the free interface RStudio (https://rstudio.com/) on my personal computer. Objectives: By the end of this course, I should be able to analyze an archaeological problem and formulate relevant hypotheses; develop a realistic experimental project to test a hypothesis derived from an archaeological observation; perform statistical analyses and simple graphs with R and RStudio; conduct multivariate analysis or statistical tests to explore an archaeological dataset; apply the fundamentals of good scientific communication to promote my research and develop my network.
