Introduction to Interdisciplinarity

Presentation: Interdisciplinarity, or the art of making teams from different disciplines work together, is a fundamental aspect of archaeological research. The module Introduction to Interdisciplinarity introduces students to archaeological research through several seminars and tutorials covering all archaeology and Prehistory disciplines (lithic technology, funerary archaeology, archaeozoology, geoarchaeology, etc.) around common themes. The program changes annually and covers a wide range of topics such as natural resource management in island contexts, ancient societies facing climate change, archaeology of medicinal and veterinary practices, mobility systems in Prehistory, and the peopling of America. Course coordinators: Sandrine Bonnardin, Lydie Dussol. In-person: 12 hours of lectures, 12 hours of tutorials. Prerequisites: Before the course, I must have knowledge of Prehistoric archaeology (undergraduate courses, excavation experience, readings, documentaries). Objectives: By the end of this course, I should be able to take effective notes during a scientific seminar in French or English to extract key information; synthesize and clearly structure this information in a report; discuss different approaches implemented to address a problem.
