Description

Herbivore animals can use leaves and stems of plants as nutrient source. By using this chracteristics of herbivore animals, human being has been producing animal foodstuff in land areas where are not suitable for grain production. Recently, self-supply of forages arises as urgent issue in intensive livestock production systems in Japan, in terms of stable and safe food supply. In this course, students firstly learn about establishment and productivity of pastures and grasslands, then feed value, digestibility and grazing by animals. In additoin, students learn about biomass production as energy resource and multi-functions of grasslands such as habitat of wild animals.
