Geomorphology

Description

This course on the principles of geomorphology looks at the relationship between processes and landforms at a variety of scales in space and time. The courses begins with a historical perspective on the development of the discipline before focussing on a range of processes that have created the landforms we find on the Earth and also at the end of the course on Mars. Topics covered include weathering, slope processes, fluvial systems, macroscale isostasy, tectonics and mountain building, glacial processes and landforms, rates of landscape change, megafloods, volcanic geomorphology and Martian geomorphology. The subject is taught through two lectures a week and alternating tutorials and practicals (where GIS and numerical skills are developed). Assessment Information: Written Exam 30%, Coursework 70%, Practical Exam 0%
