Entry Requirements: Knowledge equivalent to general entry requirements and Biology 2. Entry Requirements: Knowledge equivalent to general entry requirements and Biology 2. Objectives: After completing the course, the student should be able to. Explain and understand basic evolutionary concepts and solve simple evolutionary problems. Describe the relationship between selection and evolution, different speciation models and evolutionary constraints. Summarise characteristics of larger representative groups of eukaryotic organisms i.e. "protists", fungi, animals (including humans) and plants. Describe the development and evolutionary relationships of these organism groups and how this has influenced the development of certain characteristics. Summarise and give examples of the importance of evolution and some organism groups for humans in terms of harm or benefit. Content: At lectures and exercises, evolution theory at the population level and its relation to speciation and evolutionary relationships is addressed. Further, the main characteristics of different organism groups (including humans) are described at a general level as well as the prevailing view on their evolutionary relationship. Exercises are carried out to deepen the understanding and the ability to solve different problems within evolution and systematics. At laboratory sessions, different properties of organisms connected to relationships and adaptations related to way of living are studied.
