Description

This course is an online course. Please note: The course-internal examination will take place in presence at RWTH Aachen University. The exact date and location can be found under "Abhaltungstermine/Scheduled Dates". If you are unable to attend this date due to an event relevant to your studies (proof required), please notify your lecturer. Content The course does not require any knowledge of German. Its goal is to provide basic skills for active participation in everyday life in a German-speaking environment. Topics covered include making contact, family, study and work, languages and countries, daily life, and time and place information. The systematic development of the necessary vocabulary for and the communicative use of reading, speaking and writing skills are the main focus of the lessons. At the end of the course, you will be able to, among other things (with active participation and completion of all homework and exercises): • communicate in everyday situations, e.g. at the university, at work, in the supermarket, in restaurants, at public offices, when looking for accommodation • use appropriate sentences and expressions in everyday university life • introduce yourself, express your wishes and talk about your work ask and answer questions about your home, hobbies, tastes and interests Teaching methods You will learn new vocabulary and expand your grammar knowledge with the help of a textbook. Various methods are used in class to make the learning process more effective and interesting. These include exercises to improve pronunciation and listening comprehension, group work to develop conversational skills, and grammar and vocabulary exercises. Learners are encouraged to participate actively in class and to use their language skills in real-life situations. With the help of regular homework - which also includes written text productions - the course participants have the opportunity to deepen the course content. Course requirements Participants can acquire a certificate of achievement. The prerequisite is regular attendance, active participation and fulfilment of the course requirements. This includes i.e. homework, presenting results or information and a final examination.
