Description
A second course on ordinary differential equations with a focus on theoretical foundations. Topics include: fundamental matrix solutions, equilibria, periodic solutions, and elementary dynamical systems. Learning Hours: 132 (36 Lecture, 12 Tutorial, 84 Private Study) Requirements: Prerequisite MATH 225 /3.0 or MATH 231 /3.0 or MTHE 225 /3.5 or MTHE 235 /3.5 or MTHE 237 /3.5. Course Learning Outcomes: - Understand the basic theory behind existence and uniqueness of solutions for ODEs. - Explore the solution space of linear systems of ODEs, and solutions of selected nonlinear ODEs. - Work with the notions of equilibrium and stability. - Work with unstable, stable and centre manifolds. - Work with one-parameter bifurcations. Assessment/Exam Context: Course assessment and examinations vary by course; Queen's notes that eligible exchange students whose first language is not English may receive extra final-exam time. Exchange Registration Note: Arts and Science courses are open to exchange students subject to prerequisites and space. Most courses should be in Arts and Science; other faculties may be limited. Education, Medicine, and Nursing are not open to incoming exchange enrolment.
