Description

This course aims to introduce the theory and methods of coaching and leadership. This course addresses topics such as athlete development, skill acquisition, coaching and leadership theories, coach education, coach behaviours, interpersonal relationships, and contextual influences on coaching. This course also reflects on methodological issues related to coaching research. A central aim of this course is to encourage students to reflect on how they might apply course content to real-life situations. Learning Hours: 108 (36 Lecture, 72 Private Study) Requirements: Prerequisite Level 3 or above and registration in a KINE Plan and KNPE 265 /3.0. Corequisite KNPE 261 /3.0. Equivalency KNPE 203/3.0*. Course Equivalencies: KNPE 203/3.0*, KNPE 303 /3.0 Course Learning Outcomes: - Describe and differentiate key models of coaching and leadership. - Observe and interpret coaching behaviours. - Identify factors that influence skill acquisition and athlete development. - Explore strategies to improve coaching effectiveness and reflect on various coaching practices. - Evaluate and critique coaching research. - Adapt course content to propose practical applications for coaches, athletes, parents, and sport practitioners. Assessment/Exam Context: Course assessment and examinations vary by course; Queen's notes that eligible exchange students whose first language is not English may receive extra final-exam time. Exchange Registration Note: Arts and Science courses are open to exchange students subject to prerequisites and space. Most courses should be in Arts and Science; other faculties may be limited. Education, Medicine, and Nursing are not open to incoming exchange enrolment.
