Description

This course examines global health from a variety of perspectives, including anthropological, epidemiological, and sociological, to help understand the cultural and historical patterns shaping global health inequalities. With an emphasis on resource-poor countries, specific topics may include infectious and non-communicable diseases, nutrition and maternal health. NOTE Also offered at Bader College, UK (Learning Hours may vary). Learning Hours: 120 (36 Lecture, 84 Private Study) Requirements: Prerequisite (Level 3 or above and HLTH 101 /3.0) or permission of the School. Course Learning Outcomes: - Critically discuss the issues and challenges associated with a range of global health topics. - Critically discuss the complexity of decision-making in global public health at various levels. - Assess current systems and mechanisms for global health governance. - Explain the basis for between- and within country inequalities in health. - Examine theoretical models and moral frameworks within the context of global health promotion. Assessment/Exam Context: Course assessment and examinations vary by course; Queen's notes that eligible exchange students whose first language is not English may receive extra final-exam time. Exchange Registration Note: Arts and Science courses are open to exchange students subject to prerequisites and space. Most courses should be in Arts and Science; other faculties may be limited. Education, Medicine, and Nursing are not open to incoming exchange enrolment.
