Description

This course is designed for non-native French speakers approximately at the B1 level seeking to enhance their written and oral communication skills while gaining cultural insights and expanding their vocabulary pertaining to cultural concepts and practices. Emphasis is placed on aural comprehension, oral production, and active student participation. Throughout the course, learners work in small groups on collaborative projects to foster practical language application. Learning Hours: 114 (36 Lecture, 78 Private Study) Requirements: Prerequisite None. One-Way Exclusion May not be taken with or after FREN 320 /3.0. Course Learning Outcomes: - Communicate clearly with a degree of spontaneity and fluency with native French speakers on a variety of everyday topics and subjects relating to French and Francophone culture. - Present opinions, positions, and arguments as demonstrated in debates and classroom discussions. - Apply vocabulary and idiomatic expressions with a high level of grammatical accuracy in daily and formal conversations. - Recount and narrate experiences and events using the correct past tenses and adverbs of time. - Identify and understand the main ideas of concrete or abstract topics in complex texts as expressed in audio materials. Assessment/Exam Context: Course assessment and examinations vary by course; Queen's notes that eligible exchange students whose first language is not English may receive extra final-exam time. Exchange Registration Note: Arts and Science courses are open to exchange students subject to prerequisites and space. Most courses should be in Arts and Science; other faculties may be limited. Education, Medicine, and Nursing are not open to incoming exchange enrolment.
