Conservation Biology
Description
The application of biological research to the conservation of biodiversity and natural resources, as well as the interaction of biology with philosophy, politics and economics in influencing conservation policy. Learning Hours: 108 (36 Lecture, 36 Tutorial, 36 Private Study) Requirements: Prerequisite BIOL 300 /3.0 and a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the Biological Foundations List. Exclusion ENSC 320 /3.0. Course Learning Outcomes: - Communicate conservation challenges and solutions from the viewpoints of different stakeholders in written and oral forms. - Critically explain and evaluate threats to biodiversity and alternative conservation solutions, ranging from solutions to specific conservation challenges to broader goals of global sustainability. - Discuss, evaluate, and reflect on the importance of biodiversity generally, and to humans specifically. - Hone the ability to work individually and in a team to produce high-quality and synthetic projects presented in written and oral form, applying strategies for time management and collaboration. Assessment/Exam Context: Course assessment and examinations vary by course; Queen's notes that eligible exchange students whose first language is not English may receive extra final-exam time. Exchange Registration Note: Arts and Science courses are open to exchange students subject to prerequisites and space. Most courses should be in Arts and Science; other faculties may be limited. Education, Medicine, and Nursing are not open to incoming exchange enrolment.
