Site Scale Workshop

Description

This workshop is part of the progression of the Workshops of the Act and the Void. The site scale is a first public interior determined by a size conceived and originated from observing an urban or community act. At this stage, students face more urban complexities than in previous stages, considering different scales, including urban grids, social context, and neighborhood relationships, collectively identifying a human scale, allowing the public interior to emerge in the site project development. This is accompanied by analysis and critical stance toward observed situations or dynamics. The student must be capable of defining collective services through the formulation of the organic structure and program of the proposal; thus understanding the complex challenge of generating a void that can accommodate inhabitants within the collective, encountering mass flows and existing city regulations, bringing them closer to essential requirements for project realization. This workshop involves dedicated work on the formal process based on the architectural act. Students must be able to spatially position and orient that form in relation to the possibility of the interior/exterior act. The act achieves fullness when one can name the generic case, capturing the essence of that space. Mastery and skill in hand
