About this course: This course is the welcome course for EMABG students starting at NMBU. It aims to give an introduction to the EMABG program and selected fields related to the study tracks. During the first week there will be lectures on general topics relevant for the program and specific topics, such as phenomics, genomic selection and genetic diversity. The second week there will be an excursion and case studies. The third and last week, there will be an introduction course to R. Learning outcome: The students will gain a basic knowledge of the general topics presented and understand: - The partner universities - How relevant breeding organisations work - How phenotyping is used in animal breeding - How genomic selection and genomic tools have an impact on animal breeding. - Livestock production in rural areas - How R can be used to analyse biological data Learning activities: - On-site lectures to introduce the topics of the course - Lectures, group work and presentations - Data lab to work on data sets using R Teaching support: Teachers will provide active guidance during in-person lectures, data labs, and tutorials, with additional assistance available as needed. The course includes a mix of in-person and online lectures, discussions, presentations, individual studies, and group exercises.
