About this course: Introduction to work and organizational psychology. Topics that are covered include motivation and reward systems, learning in organizations, problem solving and decision processes, personality and leadership, attitudes and organizational culture, working environment, social networks, and groups and teams. Learning outcome: Knowledge The student - is aware of the most important theories within organizational psychology - understands how empirical research is used to test and support theories in psychology - understands how psychological theories may be applied to improve productivity and well-being in organizations. Skills The student - is able to differentiate between key assumptions related to different psychological theories and approaches. - is able to evaluate typical challenges in organizations (e.g., related to motivation, learning, or decision making) in light of psychological theories and principles - is able to identify which psychological theories and methods that may be utilised to address typical challenges in organizations. General competence The student - has increased awareness of the importance of psychological processes related to work life. - has increased motivation to learn more about the subject. Learning activities: Lectures on campus. During the lectures, demonstrations, group tasks and small experiments will be conducted to apply theory on practical problems. Active participation is expected. Teaching support: None in particular other than contact with the teacher. Recommended prerequisites: AOS130 Introduction to Organisation Theory, or equivalent course. Introductory course in statistics (equivalent to STAT100 Statistics). Assessment method: Campus exam 3.5 hours, counts 100%.
