Advanced Operating Systems

Description

The course covers a broad range of issues in the design and implementation of modern advanced operating systems. The topics covered in this course includes OS design strategies (including microkernels, mobile, embedded and real-time operating systems and the component’s interfaces), priority and resource allocation strategies; scheduling algorithms (including for multi-core, multi-processors); naming, protection and security; UI and windowing systems; file system implementations (including network and distributed file systems); failure and recovery; and virtualization and the Internet-ready OS. They extend and provide in-depth coverage of material in earlier prerequisite OS courses.
