Description

This multidisciplinary unit draws from Indigenous, Gender, Sexuality, and Queer Studies which have generally been treated as separate fields of academic inquiry. This unit explores the intimate dimensions of Indigenous lives at the intersections of coloniality, race, culture, gender, sex, and sexuality. Through an expansive engagement with Indigenous worldviews, students will further develop an understanding of Indigenous identities and relationships with and under settler colonial occupation. Through trans, queer, and cisgender Indigenous perspectives, we will interrupt, challenge, enrich, and recalibrate our understanding towards gender, sex and sexuality as colonially constructed and challenged through an enduring sovereign erotics.
