Learning goals: Obtaining a thorough understanding of the principles of civil procedure. At the end of this course, students are able to: a. recognize b. define, using the correct legal terminology c. understand and describe the working, the scope of application and the range d. retrieve and place the source material (such as the Code of Civil Procedure) e. contextualize f. apply to examples, practical cases and extracts of case law g. and with knowledge of the applicable languages of communication in the field, being Dutch and French … the concepts, notions and principles of civil procedure. This course contributes to the following learning outcomes and core goals: The student has a basic knowledge of and a basic insight in Belgian, European and international law. He is familiar with the legal terminology, the theoretical framework and the source material of public- and private law. • has a thorough knowledge of and insight in the basic field-specific concepts • is able to accurately use legal and other field-specific terminology and basic concepts in field-related discussions or questions The student has an understanding of the interplay between the Belgian, European and international legal order. • is able to place the national field-specific rules in their European and international context The student uses a systematic approach to solving legal cases. He is able to analyse and synthesize the relevant legal facts and to connect these facts with the applicable legal rules. He uses a logical and legally sound argumentation. • understands and analyses legal texts or other field-specific texts • identifies legal rules and legal problems in concrete cases • is able to connect a concrete legal case with legal rules to come up with a legally sound solution • develops a systematic approach in working out legal and/or other field-specific solutions The student is able to communicate in a basic and professional way in Dutch, French and/or English and is able to use the correct legal and other field-specific terminology. • understands the basic terminology of the fundamental field-specific concepts in French and/or English The student is able to collect and critically process legal, jurisprudential and general educational information. • is able to look up, understand and process legal sources (legislation, case law and doctrine) when answering field-specific questions • is able to look up and process the field-specific legislation
