Description

The main objective is the learning how to derive relations between the structure of (bio)molecules and their reactivity/functionality. The emphasis is on the ability to apply previously acquired knowledge related to physicochemical parameters and reaction mechanisms to more complex (bio)molecules so that the conduct of pharmacological, biochemical and metabolic processes can be understood better. The students are furthermore expected to thoroughly master the chemical nomenclature. They must be able to, among other things, compose the right name of a given molecule, taking into account the order of priority of the functional groups; they have to be able to identify and name the molecules with their trivial names, and it is expected that they are able to draw the corresponding molecule to a given name.
