Description
The student has acquired a fundamental understanding of the relationships between a material's internal structure, its properties, its processing history, and its application in products or processes. This understanding has been developed for the main material families (polymers, metals, ceramics, and composites) and can be applied to a range of specific properties: density, stiffness, strength, fracture toughness, fatigue strength, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and dielectric behavior. Furthermore, the student has developed the following competencies : Knowledge of the order of magnitude of values for these material properties. The ability to predict microstructures using binary phase diagrams and knowledge of phase transformations. The ability to perform a basic material selection. The ability to consider sustainability aspects during this material selection process.
