Mathematics I
Description
The students rehearse and deepen their basic mathematical knowledge, both for subsequent courses in math (statistics) and the applications in their own discipline. Having followed this course, 1) students can sketch and discuss the graphs of elementary functions and simple combinations thereof, including polynomials, exponentials, goniometric and rational functions, as well as their inverses; 2) students master common techniques for differentiation and integration; 3) students can identify problems in words as extremal value problems, integration tasks or differential equations. They can select and execute a suitable solution strategy; 4) students can perform calculations with basic concepts from linear algebra, such as matrices, determinants and eigenvectors; 5) students know in which context multivariate function appear and can solve questions based on the gradient and level curves of such functions.
