Statistics of Social Sciences
Description
After completing this course: The students can apply the basic rules of mathematics in exercises. The students are able to classify variables based on the size and nature of the outcomes set and calculate and interpret the most appropriate descriptive statistics (frequency distributions, center measures, dispersion measures). The students can name, calculate and interpret the relationship between two variables (correlation, cross table, covariance). The students know the basic concepts of inductive statistics and can apply them in the context of hypothesis tests and confidence intervals. The students know the conditions and limitations of the different methods discussed, and can check these on a concrete data set. The students are able to interpret statistical results and formulate a correct conclusion in a scientific manner based on this. The students are able to convert complex social science questions into a quantitatively measurable problem. The students can apply the seen analyzes with the software package R and interpret the output. These objectives are communicated to the students at the start of the lectures.
