Description

Upon completion of this course, the student will have developed the following knowledge and skills: The student has the ability to distinguish and assess the respective roles of interests, individuals and institutions in contemporary and historical international events since 1945; The student has the ability to link international events from the present to developments in the past; The student has a deeper understanding of the influence of geopolitical factors on the evolution over time of international relations. Upon completion of this course, the student has also developed the following attitudes: The student has an interest in explanations and facts relating to international relations since 1945; The student has a heightened awareness of the connections that can emerge between past and present; The student has an awareness of the multitude of factors that often influence and trigger events in international relations; The student has an heightened awareness of the intended, but especially unintended, consequences that policy decisions can and do have on international relations. These objectives are communicated to the student at the start of the course.
