Description

This course discusses several monetary and financial topics. Upon completion of this course, the student is able to: Understand how macro, financial and macro-financial policy affect the economy Understand why financial crises occur, and what policy can do about them Recognize why policymakers may be constrained in achieving desirable outcomes Explain why policymakers may promise one thing and do another, and how to prevent it Interpret empirical results on these topics The student learns to think about current societal challenges and policies that can address them. What are different policy ideologies behind financial regulation? Do different ideologies reflect real-world problems? How do policies affect societal challenges – in principle and in reality? Are there unintended consequences? Is actual policy robust to uncertainty about empirical effects?
