After completing this course, students can: clarify the most important theoretical models conncted to HRM and the function of HR in an organisation clarify the roles van an HR manager and evaluate their importance; translate those roles into the required competences for a modern HR manager clarify the strategic importance of HRM and translate strategic choices to HR choices in simple situations understand and demonstrate the historical evolution of staaf management to strategic HRM demonstrate the most important principles of staff plannning and apply them in simple situations, with special attention for planning of the supply side (corporate demographics, turnover analysis, etc.) estimate the effectiveness of the most important recruitment channels and make decisions about the optimal mix of recruitment channels in concrete show the most important slection techniques, compare them based on criteria regarding validity and reliability, and assess their strengths and weaknesses describe the different forms of staff assessment and compare their goals; evaluate the most important assessment systems (rating vs ranking) based on their strengths and weaknesses (a.o. in relation to system-technical issues and assessment tendencies) describe the most important reward methods and assess their strengths and weaknesses in concrete situations; clarify their effect, a.o. by means of leading motivation theories (e.g. expectancy theory) demonstrate the two visions on talent management and formulate the cooresponding challenges in concrete situations The course aims to develop knowledge, the capacity for critical reflection and the ability to apply studied knowledge to concrete situations. ERS Objectives: Critically reflect on the role of HR in balancing organizational interests with broader societal concerns (ERS worldview) Assess the implications of HR decisions for various stakeholders and society (ERS worldview) Critically evaluate the effectiveness of HR decisions in light of contemporary trends and changes in the labour market (ERS worldview and Future orientation for ERS) Analyse HR issues by taking into account the organizational context, the interests of various stakeholders (such as managers, employees, trade unions, and policymakers), and the broader societal and institutional environment in which organizations operate (ERS worldview) Understand and analyse how HRM is influenced by complex, interconnected social, economic, and political structures (Complexity in ERS)
