Description
This course acquaints students with modern approaches in empirical economic research. On successfully completing this course, students are able to - Cast economic theory and economic questions in terms of a regression model and corresponding hypotheses, aimed at a statistical analysis of empirical data; - Apply the regression model to empirical data making use of an econometric software package, interpret the results in economic and statistical terms, and test the hypotheses of interest; - Show a sound understanding of the properties of the statistical methods employed in the framework of the regression model; - Assess the appropriateness and applicability of these methods in empirical data applications; Assess the appropriateness of alternative regression model specifications, and judge the realism of the underlying assumptions made.
