Description

Learning outcomes: Scientific and disciplinary basic knowledge and insight (K1) Analysis and problem solving, logical reasoning, systematic approach (I1) Looking up scientific and technical information and referring correctly to information (G1) Communicating with colleagues and non-colleagues (G2) Reflecting critically (e.g. on the results obtained: size orders, error analysis ...) (G3) Working accurately (G5) Explanation: The student can interpret and apply the basic principles of thermodynamics, such as the first and second laws of thermodynamic equilibrium (K1, I1) The student can interpret and apply the basic physical principles of fluid mechanics, such as hydrostatic pressure distribution and resultant force action, Bernoulli's equation, Darcy-Weissbach's formulation for pipe losses (K1, I1, G1) The student can interpret and apply the basic principles of heat transfer, containing the physical laws associated with heat transfer by conduction, convection and radiation, to simple problems (K1, I1, G5) The student is able to correctly analyze thermodynamic processes for pure fluids, using thermodynamic tables or applicable analytical relationships (K1, I1, G1) The student is able to accurately prepare mass, energy, momentum and entropy balances for open and closed systems and can apply them to analyze and evaluate systems (I1, G5) The student can correctly analyze a thermodynamic cycle, and can assess its performance using the ideal cycles discussed (I1, G5) The student understands the limitations and applicability of the studied laws and can critically evaluate the obtained solution (G3) The student can apply and interpret the basic theoretical knowledge acquired in a number of elaborated applications to 'real-world' engineering problems (I1, G1) The student can provide a clear written report of the solution (G2)
