Steel Structures
Description
Learning outcomes and development goals K2 L Have a basic scientific-disciplinary knowledge and understanding in one of the areas based on the chosen specialization I1 L Problem analysis and solving I2 L Designing and/or developing P1 L Operationalising G1 L Acquiring and processing information G3 L Critical reflection Objectives The student has acquired knowledge of the various components of the structural design and the analysis of structures made of steel elements according to EN1993-1-1 and other related standards. The student is able to develop a simple structural concept and to convert this into an adequate calculation model. (K2 L , I1 L , G1 L , G3 L ) The student is able to perform a first-order, elastic general analysis. He knows the limitations of this concept, and knows how to deal with sway behaviour, imperfections, stability/wind trusses, critical load factor…(K2 L , I1 L , G3 L ) Besides the verification of the displacements, the student can perform both the elastic and plastic resistance checks, as well as the necessary instability checks (column buckling, lateral torsional buckling, interaction, stability of the web...). (K2 L , I2 L , P1 L ) The student can design simple connections according to the principles of EN1993-1-8. (K2 L , I2 L , P1 L )
