LEARNING OUTCOMES (K1) Wetenschappelijk-disciplinaire basiskennis en inzicht bezitten in het domein van de industriële ingenieurswetenschappen (I1) Problemen analyseren en oplossen (I2) Ontwerpen en/of ontwikkelen (P1) Operationaliseren COURSE OBJECTIVES Systems and control theory The student will: Be able to build mathematical models (block schemes or transfer functions) for continuous-time systems (mechanical, electrical, thermal,…) based upon physical system properties. Be able to caclulate and interprete time- and frequency response of a given system Get insight in the behaviour of control systems, related to stability, accuracy and response time Draw and interprete root locus charts Describe transferfunctions of classical regulators (P, PI, PD and PID) and describe their operation in the control loop Identify linear time-invariant systems based upon a given time or frequency response. Design regulatorss according to empirical or optimal criteriums Get insight in special regulator structures Get insight into the relation between continuous-time and discrete-time signal and system representations in various domains. Systems and control theory lab The student will get empirical insights in the behaviour of control loops, harmonic analysis and practical setup of a PID controller.
