Description

This project focusses on the design of a high-rise building. Upon successful completion of this course unit, students are able to: - Estimate the lateral (wind) loads - Design an efficient lateral load-resisting system. - Perform a load descent (horizontal - vertical loads) - Select a flooring system - Perform the static analysis of the chosen design - Dimension and detail structural components (floor, beams and columns) Students work in groups to design a high rise building from the global structural design up to detailed structural components, based on their knowledge of structural mechanics and design of concrete and steel structures. The students are also able to explain the influence of design choices on structural response, and have insight into the technical and economic feasibility of the proposed design.
