Description

This course offers an introduction to the archaeology and material culture of ancient Egypt from the Predynastic Period to the Greco-Roman Period, with an emphasis on the period until Alexander the Great. The course is designed chronologically, and for each time period a number of recurring topics are studied such as settlement archaeology, temple construction, funerary culture, and developments in material culture. In each case the development of these topics through pharaonic history is discussed, as well as the way in which these evolutions are visible in the archaeological record.
