Description
This course is closely related to Celbiology II and gives students an overview of the function of the cell. In Cell Biology II the emphasis is on cell physiology and the relation between cell structure and function, whereas Cell Biology I emphasises cell biochemistry and the relation between DNA, RNA and proteins on the one hand and cell function (metabolism, motility, secretion, response to stimulation, growth and division) on the other. * The objective of the course is to gain insight into (1) the link between the structure and function of nucleic acids and proteins and (2) the integration of fundamental life processes of the cell such as metabolism, replication and protein synthesis. * By means of assignments, students are taught to think critically about the theory, to apply the theory in practice and to obtain an integrated insight into the various components of the theoretical course text.
